Sachia® Chia seeds are oval, black or white with white and black spots. They are only about 2 mm in diameter and can absorb up to 12 times their own weight in liquid.
Sachia® Chia Seeds are used whole or ground. The application is versatile and there are no limits to the use.
The seeds can be sprinkled as a topping on other foods (bread, rolls, desserts). They find their use - whole or ground - in smoothies, breakfast cereals, energy bars, granola bars, yogurt, tortillas and bread. Due to their excellent ability to absorb a lot of liquid, chia seeds are also used as an egg substitute in the vegan diet.
Historically speaking, the Chia seeds come from Central and South America. They are hence not an invention of the modern age but a traditional food that has been popular for the past 2.000 years during the Age of the Mayas and Aztecs.
The sowing of the seeds in Mexico takes place in June. The specialised farmers supervise all the stages from sowing to harvesting without using any herbicides, fungicides or pesticides. The growth period has finished by the end of November. The harvest of the seeds is then carried out with big combine harvesters. Every single shipment is checked for quality upon arrival at the warehouse.
